A Debtor who is “pro se” (representing himself/herself) is held to the same standards and requirements as are required of a Debtor who is represented by an attorney. The Trustee and her staff are not permitted to give legal advice. Pro Se Debtors are encouraged to seek the advice of an attorney of their choice in the event of needing any legal advice.
A Debtor who is unable to afford an attorney may, under limited circumstances, be able to obtain the assistance of a pro bono attorney (an attorney who volunteers to provide legal services at no charge). A pro se Debtor in need of a pro bono attorney may contact the following for assistance:
